N.J. Hospitals Keeping Communities Healthy & Strong

*2021 data

Hospitals are vital community anchors. They’re here to care 24/7. They power local economies with jobs and opportunity. And they are local champions that invest mightily in keeping their communities healthy and strong.

Beyond the patient care delivered inside their facilities, New Jersey hospitals’ commitment to their surrounding neighborhoods and residents reaches $3.5 billion annually, based on 2021 data. Roughly 12% of every dollar spent by New Jersey hospitals is devoted to these community health initiatives including food access, housing, education, career development, literacy and much more. Well beyond the free and discounted care that hospitals provide to vulnerable populations, this commitment spans numerous areas of social responsibility that target local needs and help relieve government’s burden.
