Obstetric Sepsis
Sepsis causes more than 260,000 maternal deaths around the world each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sepsis is responsible for 12.7 percent of pregnancy-related deaths, third only to heart disease (15.5 percent) and non-cardiovascular disease (14.5 percent). And like so many birth complications, the risk – and mortality – are significantly higher among women of color. NJHA partners with the Sepsis Alliance and other stakeholders to bring tools, resources and greater awareness to both patients and providers in the fight against sepsis mortality.
